How does simultaneous interpreting work?
Simultaneous interpreting is a demanding professional practice in which the interpreter listens to a speaker in one language and renders the message into another language in real time, with minimal delay. This requires deep linguistic competence, cultural awareness, and constant attention to accuracy, tone, and context, so that communication remains clear, faithful, and easy to follow.
What’s the difference between simultaneous and consecutive interpreting?
Simultaneous interpreting is delivered live and continuously, making it ideal for conferences, panels, press events, and larger meetings.
Consecutive interpreting is delivered in segments, with the speaker pausing to allow interpretation. It is well suited to diplomatic meetings, negotiations, site visits, and smaller group discussions.
What is whispered interpreting (chuchotage)?
Whispered interpreting is a discreet form of simultaneous interpreting used for one or two participants, without the need for full interpreting equipment. It works well for small meetings, briefings, or visits where only a limited number of participants require interpretation.
On-site or remote interpreting — which should I choose?
Both on-site and remote interpreting can be effective when the right conditions are in place. On-site interpreting allows for full presence and situational awareness, while remote interpreting offers flexibility and efficiency. I can help you decide which option best suits your event and technical setup.
How do I choose the right interpreting solution for my event?
The most suitable interpreting format depends on the type of event, the number of participants, the working languages, and the setting. If you’re unsure, I’m happy to advise you and recommend the solution that will best support clear and effective communication.
Why work with a professional interpreter?
Professional interpreters are trained to handle complex communication with accuracy, discretion, and sensitivity. Beyond linguistic transfer, they manage tone, register, cultural nuance, and live interaction dynamics — elements that automated tools cannot reliably handle in real-time settings.
Is confidentiality guaranteed?
Yes. Confidentiality is a fundamental principle of professional interpreting. All information shared before, during, and after an assignment is treated with the utmost discretion.
Do you prepare in advance for assignments?
Yes. Careful preparation is essential to high-quality interpreting. When available, I review agendas, background materials, and terminology in advance to ensure consistency, accuracy, and fluency throughout the event.
What language combinations do you work with?
I work with English, Spanish, and Italian in every direction (English into Spanish and vice versa, Italian into Spanish and vice versa, English into Italian and vice versa). The appropriate working direction depends on the context and nature of the assignment.
How far in advance should I book?
Whenever possible, it’s best to book early, especially for conferences or multi-day events. Early booking allows for proper preparation and helps ensure availability.
Can you work with interpreting equipment and technical platforms?
Yes. I am experienced in working with professional interpreting equipment and remote platforms and can support you in planning the technical setup needed for your event.
